Wild Heart Break
“Life is not always fair. Sometimes you get a splinter sliding down a rainbow.”
~Terri Guillemets
I cannot sugarcoat the heartbreak so many people are feeling tonight regarding the splinter in the life of some horses called “Lethal White Syndrome”. It is an autosomal genetic disorder, there is no treatment, and it is fatal.
Unfortunately, we are dealing with just that syndrome in a wild foal born here, in TRNP, Sunday morning. This filly is all white, cute as a button and her momma is the well loved Chubby.
At 6:30 this morning we thought she had already expired, but she is a fighter and as of 5:00 this afternoon she was still alive.
My husband and I talked at length about sharing her story and we both agreed that life is not always easy. Decisions surrounding life in the wild are not easy, and I respect completely the ones that are made by the staff here who have deep feelings for these wild animals, just like you and me.
She is cute, she is sweet, and she will pass to another place, and it is hard and this is very tough to share.
