Description
“To vary the compression of the muscle therefore, and so to swell and shrink it, there needs nothing but to change the consistency of the included ether… . Thus may therefore the soul, by determining this ethereal animal spirit or wind into this or that nerve, perhaps with as much ease as air is moved in open spaces, cause all the motions we see in animals. “
~Sir Isaac Newton
(From ‘An Hypothesis explaining the Properties of Light, discoursed of in my several Papers’, in Thomas Birch, The History of the Royal Society (1757), Vol. 3, 252. This was from Newton’s Second Paper on Color and Light, read at the Royal Society (9 Dec 1675).)
“Thus may therefore the soul — cause all the motions we see in animals.” The soul of the wilds — we have no idea nor will we ever know what their soul is because we are not them. We are just who we are, humans, trapped in human bodies, walking on human legs, having human thoughts, worrying about human things, projecting our human emotions into the scenes that play out in front of us.
So today….as you see the effortless power of this wild bachelor stallion, his animal spirit moving with ease, kicking up dust and dirt, all four feet off the ground….so today….be human and enjoy the scene! I know I did, immensely, the entire time we, Jamie and I, witnessed this young stallion run and play and engage with the “Boys of Summer” as Jamie called them, or the “East Side Boys” as many call them!
Over and over, this 44th foal born in the year 2013, Trooper, expressed his ethereal animal spirit with every band stallion on the flats — Mystery, Sidekick, Copper, Satellite, Arrowhead, Brutus, Thunder, Red Face and Vamoose and those “Boys of Summer” — Marty, Sebastian, Evans, Urban, and along with the occasional Xander (now firmly back with his natal band).
Yes Trooper will have his day as a band stallion!
