The mares of the wild herds are often forgotten and overlooked with our obsession of the wild stallions and their majestic behavior!

Mares, tireless and duty bound, protect their young, take the ‘lead’ on moving to find water and food, and can be as fearless as their band stallion! Their behavior within their particular band is fascinating to watch and the individual personalities in the harem are as vast and diverse as our own.

In honor of the mares in Red Face’s band, here is Frosty, as beautiful and strikng as her band stallion. She is the mother to the oldest 2015 filly in TRNP, Denali.
