Best Times of Year To Photograph Horses in America

Capturing quality photos is important for all photographers. Interested in taking gorgeous photos of horses during peak season? Discover the best times of year to photograph horses in America and plan your next photoshoot.

What Are the Right Seasons?

Photographing horses is a wonderful activity for professionals and hobbyists. There is no right season, but there are preferable seasons. Spring through the end of summer is the best time of year to photograph horses in America. The weather is warm, the sun is shining, and the horses have beautiful coats. With all the right elements, spring and summer photoshoots are the best.

Pros and Cons of Spring Photoshoots

Spring horse photoshoots are popular for a reason. The weather isn’t too hot or humid. Most horses start to shed, leaving them with slick and shiny coats. Along with a gorgeous horse, you can’t forget about the background. Capture blooming flowers, trees, and greenery around the animals.

The only drawback to spring photoshoots is rain. After all, “April showers bring May flowers” is a popular and true phrase. Rainy days bring cloudy skies and mud. For that reason, inclement weather can dampen (pun intended) photoshoots.

Pros and Cons of Summer Photoshoots

Summer photoshoots are fantastic because horses have slick coats with no fly-away hairs. The ground is dry, and the days are longer, which extends photoshoot times! The disadvantage of summer is the heat, humidity, and flying pests.

In America, summers are hot and humid. If you’re not a fan of the heat, summer photography is challenging. Another con of summer photography is insects, particularly mosquitoes, flies, and gnats. Depending on the location, you may encounter a lot of pests.

Can You Photograph in the “Off” Seasons?

Although spring and summer are the best seasons for photoshoots, they’re not the only ones you can shoot in. Fall and winter horse photography is beautiful too! Just know that “off” seasons come with noticeable challenges.

The sun sets early, the temperatures are cooler, and the sky is gray. These elements make capturing high-quality photos difficult. However, it’s not impossible. At times, you’ll experience favorable weather for fall and winter photoshoots.

You don’t have to wait until spring to get horse photos. We have wild horse photos for sale on our website. Enjoy breathtaking images of majestic horses year-round!
